Sarasota Rallies For 4-2 Victory At Key West
If you can win at the Rex, you can win anywhere in Florida.
This was the affirmation the Sarasota Sailors earned on Saturday night, as the team rallied to victory in one of the most challenging road venues in all of Florida. After falling behind early on, Sarasota came back for a 4-2 win over the Key West Conchs, in front of a typical rowdy crowd at Rex Weech Field in Key West.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the fifth inning, the Sailors (8-12) erupted for all four of their runs to move into the driver’s seat. The first four batters all reached base to slowly increase the pressure, as patience and plate discipline paid off in earning four straight walks. Bernard Barnes then delivered the big hit when he lined a two-RBI double to center field to plate the winning run, as Jaxson Smith and Juan Perez both came home. Michael Bendever then tacked on another insurance run thanks to a sac-fly RBI from Braedon Mackay.
Barnes was 2-for-4 on the day, and also played a pivotal role on the mound in closing out the win. After starter Cesar Garmendia went six innings to earn the win, Barnes struck out a pair in a scoreless seventh inning to record the save. Garmendia had six strikeouts while allowing five hits and walking one.
