Riverview Sharks, Alonso To Meet In Saladino Semifinal
Tyler Salomon’s RBI single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning moved the Riverview Sharks past Leto and into a semifinal meeting with Alonso in the 37th Annual Saladino Tournament, at Brandon High on Thursday. The Alonso Ravens advanced with a 4-3 win over the Newsome Wolves.
Before Tyler Salomon singled home Ben Miglarese to give the Sharks a 2-1 victory, he was driven home by Javier Rosario on a hard hit single to center field in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one apiece. Salomon reached base on a single and stole second to move into scoring position for Rosario to tie the game with the base hit.
Leto (7-4) held the initial lead on an RBI single from Andreas Morales that drove home Javy Hernandez in the third. But that was all the offense they could muster against the Sharks’ duo of Freddy Tarnok and Reagan Jorgensen. The two combined to throw 101 pitches over eight innings, allowing just the one run on seven hits and no walks, with three strikeouts. Tarnok started the game and lasted four innings, striking out two, while Jorgensen picked up the victory, allowing no runs over the final four innings.
Riverview will now square-off with the Alonso Ravens in the first of two semifinal match ups on Friday. The Ravens held a lead heading into the top of the seventh inning but Austin Spires’ two-RBI single gave the Wolves a 3-2 lead entering the bottom half of the inning.
Senior Jose Ciccarello sparked the rally in bottom of the seventh off with a lead-off single for the Ravens. He moved into scoring position on a sac-fly from Sam Drumheller, who went 2-for-4 on the night. Jordan Butler drove Ciccarello home on a game-tying RBI single to center field. Butler led the Ravens on offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jonathan Cruz came into run for Scott Meitzler who doubled with one out. Two at-bats later, the game was over when Drumheller drove home Cruz and the Ravens walked-off with a 4-3 victory to advance in the Saladino Tournament.
