Largo Rallies In Sixth To Edge Trinity Christian-Deltona
Down to their final outs and being held scoreless on the board, the Largo Packers stormed back to a 4-3 victory over Trinity Christian-Deltona, in the Battle at the Beach tournament at Spruce Creek on Monday. The Packers (2-6) will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between New Smyrna Beach and IMG Academy Blue, which was pushed back due to weather.
Cody Lee kept up his scorching hitting this season to lead the comeback. The junior connected for a three-run home run on a 3-1 offering in the sixth that swung the score in favor of the Packers. Lee was 2-for-3 with a double on the day.
“Cody Lee is a great hitter,” manager David Neverline said. “He has been hitting all year and he got his second home run today. He is batting over .500 for the season so far.”
Tim Rodriguez had an RBI double to start the scoring in sixth, and Josh Bartley and Sean Neiman both scored on Lee’s home run. Meanwhile, Neverline was quick to point out the performances from the pitching staff as well.
“Sophomore Jordan Stillwell gave us a great jump on the mound by throwing five innings and freshman Chris Pesch got his first high school win in relief,” Neverline said.
The Eagles (7-2) took the lead with two runs sin the second. Matthew Frasco singled with two outs and then scored when Edel Morales reached on an error. Daniel Nugent then lined an RBI single to center field that drove in Morales.
Morales helped Trinity Christian add a run in the fifth, after he reached with a bunt single to start the inning. Morales then stole second, advanced to third when Collin Curtis reached on an error and scored when Trenton Brickhouse also reached on an error.
