Lakeland’s Matt Dye No-Hits IMG Academy Blue

Lakeland senior right-hander Matt Dye tossed a no-hitter to lead the Dreadnaughts past the IMG Academy Acsenders Blue 3-0 on Thursday. Dye struck out six and issued four walks, needing just 97 pitches to go the entire seven innings.

The Dreadnaughts (8-5) scored a pair of runs in the second inning for all the support Dye needed. Drew Brutcher reached on an error, Brock Barger lined a single to left field and Chase Ricketts walked to load the bases. Eric Ireland then drove in the deciding run with an infield single that ate up the shortstop, and Garrett Wilt followed with a sac-fly RBI on a flyout to right field.

Barger was 2-for-3 and was the only player with multiple hits on the night.

Lakeland added an insurance run in the third. Zach Malvasia walked, stole second and scored on an RBI double to left off the bat of Alex Ramos.

JT Turley also delivered a fine pitching performance for IMG Academy. The senior left-hander went the distance as well, allowing one earned run on six hits and three walks while striking out three.
