Jesuit, Carrollwood Day Advance In Saladino Tournament
Behind a seven-run sixth inning, and a dominate complete-game shutout from Price Sartor, the Jesuit Tigers advanced with a 9-0 victory the defending tournament champion Steinbrenner Warriors in the quarterfinal round of the 37th Annual Saladino Tournament. The Tigers will square-off with the Carrollwood Day Patriots, who dispatched the Plant Panthers 9-3 to also advance.
Duncan Hunter and Garrett Shephard led the way on offense for the Tigers (8-1), combining to drive in five of the nine runs on the night. Hunter went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Shephard drove in three runs and scored once on a 2-for-3 night at the plate. McGuire Weaver, Alex Mocny, Mitchell Thrower and Carter Anderson all tallied an RBI apiece for the Tigers.
Price Sartor went the distance on the mound for the Tigers, holding the defending champion Warriors (8-2) to just six base-runners. Sartor walked two and allowed four hits on 99 pitches over the seven innings. He struck out five of the 28 batters he faced.
The Patriots (9-2) secured the final spot in the semifinals thanks in part to a four-run second inning that put the game out of reach early for the Panthers (8-2). Grant Walford opened the scoring in the second inning with a line-drive triple to right field that brought home Leandro Alvarez and Will Grisack. Walford’s triple was part of a 2-for-3 night at the plate, where he drove home three and score two runs.
Seven of the nine starters for the Patriots collected hits, including multi-hit games from Rodrigo Montenegro, Frank Furey, Andre Hevesy and Blake Hooker. Montenegro added three runs and Hevesy drove in two runs.
Frank Furey started the game for the Patriots and struck out eight batters over six innings of work. He allowed two runs on three hits and four walks in the win. Gabriel Partridge came in for the final inning and allowed one run on no hits and one walk. He struck out one batter to close out the game and help the Patriots advance to the final four of the Saladino Tournament.
