Fast Start, Stout Pitching Propels Calvary Christian Over Largo
Calvary Christian used a fast start and stout pitching to shutout Largo 6-0 Tuesday in Clearwater. The Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, while four pitchers combined to toss a shutout against the Packers.
Starting pitcher Jonathan Fisher had five strikeouts in four innings of work to earn the win. Pitchers Derek Gray, Curt Leavens and Joseph Lyons all tossed an inning apiece in relief and recorded two strikeouts each to preserve the shutout.
Eric Kennedy led the charge on offense for Calvary Christian (1-0), going for 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two doubles and a run scored. His teammate Justin Bench, who doubled in the first pitch of the first inning, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Matheu Nelson also went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Warriors. Nolan Hudi finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run.
Cody Lee hit a double to break up a no-hitter for Largo (0-1). He finished 1-for-2.
