Berkeley Prep Strikes Early In Win Over Carrollwood Day
Playing in its season opener, Berkeley Prep appeared to be in mid-season form, jumping out to an early lead en route to a 5-1 over Carrollwood Day Friday. The Buccaneers (1-0) scored all five of their runs in the first inning and pitcher Julian Bosnic took it from there, tossing five-and-a-third innings, allowing one run, two hits, while recording 10 strikeouts against Patriots (2-1).
Bosnic also helped his own cause at the plate, finishing 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. He drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first, hitting a 3-2 pitch on a line drive to center that scored Carson Weekly. With two runners on, Jakob Hines singled to left to score Bosnic and Spencer Myers, boosting the score to 3-0.
Berkeley Prep’s Michael Hill went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a triple. He drove in the Buccaneers last two runs in the first on a line drive to left field that scored Hines and Gordon Stetson. Hines finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run, while Stetson and Myers each had a hit and a run scored.
Starting pitcher Frank Furey tossed three innings in the loss and went 1-for-3 with a run scored at the plate for Carrollwood.
Zachary Watts entered in relief to pitch four innings, recording two strikeouts and two walks while holding Berkeley Prep to one hit and no runs scored.
Blake Hooker had an RBI and a walk for Carrollwood Day.
