Tampa Bay Tech Outlasts Blake For The Victory
A pair of non-district opponents faced off Tuesday night when the Blake Yellow Jackets traveled to take on the Tampa Bay Tech Titans. The Yellow Jackets held the Titans to three hits all night but the Titans were able to put six on the board and hold on for the 6-3 victory, their second in a row.
The Yellow Jackets (1-15) took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second on double from Keion Mitchell that scored Isaac Largel from second. However, the Yellow Jackets offense struggled most of the night against Titan’s starter Malcolm Boyd. Boyd scattered four hits over 5.2 innings allowing just three runs, of which only two were earned. He struck out four and walked two.
After falling behind 1-0, the Titans (5-12) quickly responded in the bottom of the second inning. Jeff Ray swung at the first pitch he saw and sent a ball into center field to score Jaylen Crumity and Miyon Hampton. Hampton came in as a courtesy runner for James Ewers who was issued a walk.
The Titans added two more runs in the third when Freddie Drayton and Jermaine White crossed the plate on an error by the Yellow Jackets. White added another run later in the game along with Ray to help build a 6-2 lead.
After Largel scored his second run of the game for the Yellow Jackets to pull within three, the Titans turned to Jarid Salisbury to get the final four-outs of the game. It took Salisbury 23 pitches to get through 1.1 innings. He allowed no hits and struck out two to secure the save and lock down the victory.
