Riverview Surrenders Six Runs Late, Fall To Venice
The Venice Indians, the top team in the SWF Rankings, traveled to Sarasota on Wednesday to take on the Riverview Rams in a non-district match up. The Indians were clinging to a one-run lead until the offense awoke and scored six runs late to propel them to a 8-1 victory.
The Indians (19-4) jumped out to the early 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Scott Dubrule that scored Tyler Gardner from second. A Rylee Buckmaster double brought in the second run of the game to give the Indians a 2-0 advantage.
Max Fulton scored for the Rams (7-14) to cut the Indians lead in half after three innings. Peter Bozek started the game for the Rams and pitched well early on the limit the potent offense of the Indians. Bozek lasted five innings, striking out two and allowing just three earned runs.
Trevor Holloway started the game for the Indians and went five strong innings, allowing one run on three hits, and two walks, while striking out five.
Holloway left the game with a one-run lead but the Indians offense added some insurance shortly after. A RBI single from Brent Killam and a triple from Shane Shifflet, scoring Killam and Mitch Donofrio, highlighted a six run sixth and seventh inning to give the Lions a 8-1 lead.
Killam and Brad Jones pitch the sixth and seventh respectively and combined for one hit, no runs and five strikeouts to preserve the victory for the Lions.
