Palmetto Wins Wild 8A-8 Match-Up Against Manatee
An 8A-8 match-up between the Manatee Hurricanes and visiting Palmetto Tigers took place Tuesday evening and saw multiple lead changes throughout the game. This led to extra innings, where the Tigers took control in the ninth and held on to the 7-6 victory. The Tigers picked up their first district win and improved their road record to 3-1.
The Tigers (7-5, 1-4) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top half of the third. With no outs and the bases load, Alden Blaney took the first pitch he saw and sent a line-drive deep into right field for the triple. Casey Rodriguez, Brandon Lam, and Daniel Urbina scored on the triple to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Blaney scored the fourth run of the inning from third on a passed ball with two outs in the inning.
Down 4-0 entering the bottom of the third, the Hurricanes (4-7, 1-4) took back one of the runs they gave. A single by Eric Crawford scored the first run of the game for the Hurricanes, who carried over the momentum into the bottom of the fourth where the bats awoke for four runs. Garret Richelieu, Collin Moore, and Eric Crawford collected the RBIs to give the Hurricanes the 5-4 lead.
A Tyler Henning RBI double to left field tied the game for the Tigers at five apiece.
Entering extra innings, each team scored a run in the eighth. In the top of the inning, Henning came across to score on a passed ball to give the Tigers the 6-5 lead. Dillion Sullivan extended the game for the Hurricanes with a single to center field to score Richeleau for the tying run.
The game would not be extended for long however. A Hunter Finner sacrifice fly scored the go-ahead run for the Tigers who then let Anthony Calhoun shut down the Hurricanes in bottom of the ninth the win this wild 8A-8 match-up.
