Braden River Strong Overall In Victory Over Lakewood Ranch
Non-district foes squared off Thursday when the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs traveled to face the Braden River Pirates in the second game of a home and home series. The Pirates score early and they score often and held on to win 9-1 against the Mustangs.
The Pirates (9-3, 6-1) came into the game winners of four of their last five, including one against the Mustangs on Wednesday. Tyler Dyson brought in Gincarllo Gamboa to get the scoring going in the first. During the next at-bat Brian Dillingham took off from third and stole home for the second run of the inning.
The Mustangs (9-5, 5-1) were unable to slow down the Pirates offense as they scored runs in every inning, aside from the second, to build a 9-0 lead going into the seventh. Gamboa and Dillingham combined to score five of the nine runs for the Pirates. Hunter Thomas, Gavin Root and Zacc Wiedeman also crossed the plate for the Pirates.
Not only did Dyson have a strong game offensively for the Pirates, he went 2-for-4 with two RBI, he went the distance on the mound as well. Dyson threw an efficient 74 pitches over seven innings. He gave up five hits but only one run and struck out seven. He showed great command of the strike zone, throwing 76 percent of his pitches for strikes in the victory.
Dyson’s only blemish of the evening came in the seventh. With one on and two outs, Pablo Garabitos took the first pitch he saw and sent it into left field to score Colton Zimmering for the Mustangs only run of the game. The next batter grounded out to Brian Dillingham to end the game and sweep the home and home series for the Pirates.
