Steinbrenner Dominates On The Bases To Down Freedom
Steinbrenner dominated every aspect of Tuesday night’s game against Freedom to earn a 9-1 victory. Starting left-handed pitcher Patrick Morris mixed his pitches well, giving up three hits and one run in six innings. He also dominated at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI’s, and added a single and a stolen base.
Freedom is still searching for its first victory of the season, falling to 0-4, while Steinbrenner moves to 3-2.
The Warriors tore the base paths up by stealing a total of nine bases. Centerfielder Cam Coakley reached base three times and stole four bases on the night, while scoring two runs. Drew Burkham went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base to go along with a base on balls.
Meanwhile, Morris was cruised along through five straight innings without giving up a single base runner. He gave up three hits to start the sixth inning and gave way to right-hander Ryan Russell to come in and shut the threat down.
“The kids played a pretty complete game tonight,” said manager John Crumbley. “We can still improve in some areas but overall it was pretty good.”
Steinbrenner’s two losses were both one-run losses, but Tuesday the Warriors really put it all together as a team to dominate the action from the beginning. Freedom couldn’t find an answer to Steinbrenner’s aggressiveness on the base paths. The Warriors set themselves up in scoring position all night, executing the hit-and-run very well. Starting right handed pitcher Josh Riffle pitched the first three innings for Freedom, giving up five runs on three hits and five walks.
The only bright spot for the Patriots came in the top of the sixth inning when third baseman Zack Booth led off with a single that was followed with a double from shortstop Sayvon Collins. A single later in the inning from right fielder Dalton Smith plated the lone run for Freedom on the night.
Ryan Russell came in a slammed the door on the inning he would come back out in the top of the seventh and set the Patriots down 1-2-3 to finish any chances Freedom had of coming back for their first victory of the year.
