Lake Region Rallies Late To Edge Tenoroc
Lake Region picked up its first road victory of the season on Tuesday night, as Orlando Pena scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh to lead the Thunder to a 3-2 win over Tenoroc. Orlando walked and stole second base with one out in the seventh, before a pair of passed balls allowed him to advance the last two bases for the deciding run.
Orlando Pena scored twice on the day, also coming home in the third after he reached on an error, stole a base and came in on an RBI single to center field from Austyn Walters. Nick Pena also scored in the frame, after he was hit by a pitch to reach base and then driven in on an RBI groundout from Luke Kelly.
The Titans (2-1) answered right back in the bottom of the third to cut the Thunder’s lead in half. Garrett Oliver singled to start things off, and Peyton Whitehead moved him over with a sacrifice. Manny Torres then delivered a shot down the left field line for an RBI double.
Torres helped Tenoroc even things up in bottom of the sixth. He drew a one-out walk, stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Justin Hobbs followed with a single to center to bring Torres in and put things at a 2-2 tie heading into the top of the seventh.
Austin Frye struck out two and needed just 12 pitches to deliver a perfect inning to close things out in the bottom of the seventh.
The Two teams will meet again in early March, when the Thunder (3-1) will play host.
