Keswick Christian Tallies Big Win Over Gulf Coast HEAT
Keswick Christian jumped out with a big lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back on its way to a 13-0 win over the Gulf Coast HEAT on Friday evening. The Crusaders (3-0) opened up with eight runs in the first inning, and then starter Nick Boesch kept the HEAT bats quiet with three perfect innings.
Boesch earned the victory in the five-inning contest that was shortened by the mercy rule. The senior right-hander struck out eight by pounding the zone for 29 strikes in 37 pitches.
Austin Deckingaa struck out a pair while issuing a walk in a scoreless fourth and Josh Paulton also had a scoreless fifth inning with two strikeouts. The HEAT’s Jacob Zehner was able to connect for a hit in the fifth to break up the no-hitter.
Paulton helped get the offense going in the first when he doubled to move along courtesy-runner Seth Sorrell, who came in after catcher Nick Berryman drew a walk. Sorrell scored on a passed ball and Quinton Pertkiewicz walked, followed by an error that scored both base runners and landed Will Killpatrick on second. after another error plated another run, Zach Petchonka came through with an RBI double.
Pertkiewicz led all batters by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Josh Guerin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Paulton collected two hits while Tanner Suarez scored twice.
