Keswick Christian Cruises To 12-0 Victory Over Canterbury
The Keswick Christian Crusaders continued their torrid start to the season Friday evening as they rolled to a 12-0 victory over the Canterbury Crusaders. Seven different batters crossed the plate for the Crusaders who scored double digit runs for the fourth game in a row.
After a relatively slow start, the Crusaders (5-0) came alive in the top of the third inning. Already up 1-0, Quinton Pertkiewickz came to the plate for the Crusaders and reached base safely on a ball passed the short stop which brought home teammate Seth Sorrell for the second run of the game. Pertkiewickz crossed the plate for the second run of the inning when Tanner Suarez hit a single into left field. Four more runs scored before the third inning was over to extend the Crusaders lead to 7-0.
Canterbury (2-4) was stymied at the plate all night by Keswick pitcher Josh Guerin. The senior went five full innings, throwing a total of 67 pitches. He allowed just four hits on the night, no runs, and struck out six batters. Canterbury hitters constantly found themselves behind in the count early against Guerin who threw first pitch strikes to 12 of the 18 batters he faced on the evening.
The top of the fourth inning played out much like the top of the third for the Crusaders. Josh Paulton lead off the inning with a bunt single, one of his two hits on the night. Paulton came around to score later in the inning off a line drive base hit into center field from Nathan Leuthold. Tommy Simpson brought Leuthold home later in the inning for the tenth run of the game. The Crusaders’ added two more runs to take a commanding 12-0 lead that proved to be the final score after the game ended after five innings.
