Berkeley Prep Continues Strong Start With Win Over IMG Black
The undefeated Berkeley Prep Buccaneers outlasted the IMG Academy Ascenders 1-0 on Tuesday behind a stellar pitching performance from sophomore Julian Bosnic. This non-district bout saw a total of just seven hits between both sides as the defense and pitching dictated this match up.
The only run in the game for either team came in the bottom of the third inning. After Spencer Myers drew a lead-off walk, the Buccaneers infielder showed alert base running as he stole both second and third base later in the inning. Myers was then brought home by Bosnic when he took a 2-2 pitch and sent it past the second baseman to put the Buccaneers (3-0) on the scoreboard.
The one run was all Bosnic needed as he stymied the IMG hitters. Bosnic nearly pitched a complete game, going six and two-third innings, throwing a total of 99 pitches. Over the nearly seven innings of work, Bosnic allowed just three hits while striking out 14 batters and allowing only two walks.
Senior right-handed pitcher Greer Holston pitched a solid game for the Ascenders (2-1), who dropped their first game of the season. Holston threw 81 pitches over four innings, allowing just the one run. Holston struck out six of the batters he faced while only walking one.
The Ascenders put some pressure on the the Buccaneers in the top of the seventh after junior infielder Matt Lynch singled to right field and advanced into scoring position on an error. With two outs the Buccaneers brought in Casey Keller for the save opportunity and he promptly shut the door on any comeback attempt by striking out the only batter he faced.
