Gaither’s David Masuck No-Hits Sickles For 6-0 Win
Gaither’s David Masuck delivered a no-hit performance to lead his club a 6-0 win over Sickles for its first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon. Masuck struck out six in the complete-game performance, walking one batter to fall just short of throwing a perfect game. He needed just 69 pitches to go the distance, and 48 of those found the strike zone.
The Cowboys (1-2) get into the win column after two close road losses to start the season. Gaither has yet to play a home game on the young season.
The visitors jumped right out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, giving Masuck all the cushion he needed before he ever even toed the rubber. Jose Cadenas walked and Edgar Nunez singled, before AJ Drisdom laid down a sacrifice bunt to move them both into scoring position. Camryn Williams singled to center to score Cadenas and Kenny Rodriguez grounded into a double play that allowed Nunez to score.
The Cowboys added three runs in the fourth to add more cushion. Rodriguez and Chipper Holland scored on an error and Cadenas had an RBI double down the left field line that scored Ricardo Gonzalez. Jayson Gonzalez added a sac-fly RBI to drive in Danny Gutcher in the sixth.
Freshman Daniel Bernstein drew a walk for the Gryphons (1-2) as the club’s only base runner of the day.
